About Me

Janel Metsker

I live in Springfield, Missouri with my husband, two sons, and adorable dogs! I love travel, mountains, and family time on the lake. I also love coffee on my porch, time with my dogs, classical music, and home improvement projects. Many of these experiences have been inspirations for my designs.

I have been designing quilt patterns since 2011. When I decided to start publishing my patterns, I committed to making them how I would want to buy them as a quilter. Nite Owl Quilting patterns are:

• Edited and tested by beginner and expert quilters

• Several patterns are written with multi-size options

• Printed with full size templates

• Professionally presented with great photography and graphic design

• Easy to follow with professionally made diagrams

• Store-ready with bar-codes and item numbers

• Written with tips for choosing colors, color layout diagrams, and designed to have a great flow of color!

As the owner and designer of Nite Owl Quilting, my patterns and quilts have been displayed in International Quilt Market booths with Robert Kaufman fabrics, Stof Fabrics, Maywood Studios fabrics, Checker Distributors, Brewer Sewing Supplies, and E.E. Schenck. My Sunrise Stag pattern was featured in several issues of the Keepsake Quilting catalog. My It is Well quilted wall art pattern was featured in several issues of the Nancy’s Notions catalog.

I am a former Family and Consumer Sciences high school teacher with my Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Missouri State University. In one of our local high schools, I taught the fashion and interior design pathway courses and wrote curriculum for our school district. Each school year, I taught over 100 high school students how to sew! As a teacher, I have received an award for the Best Practices in the state of Missouri for running sewing labs after presenting  at the Missouri Educators of Family and Consumer Sciences (MoEFACS) Summer Conference in 2019.

I now get to pursue my quilting passions as a Handi Quilter National Educator, pattern designer, and longarm quilter! I am happy to share my love of sewing with you. I hope you enjoy my patterns, tutorials, and classes!
